Delicious Marble Cake

Description:

A moist and tender cake with swirls of vanilla and chocolate batter, creating a beautiful marbled effect. Perfect for any occasion, it combines the best of both flavors in one slice.

Origin:

Marble cake traces its roots to 19th-century Europe, where bakers combined plain and chocolate batters to create visually stunning cakes that also pleased diverse palates.

Ingredients (Serves 8–10):

  • 2 ½ cups (315g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ¾ cups (350g) granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup (240ml) whole milk
  • ¼ cup (25g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons boiling water

Optional Ingredients:

  • ½ teaspoon espresso powder (to enhance chocolate flavor)
  • Powdered sugar or chocolate glaze for topping

Instructions:

1. Prepare Dry Ingredients:

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and flour a 9-inch bundt or loaf pan.
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.

2. Cream Butter and Sugar:

  1. In a large bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–5 minutes).

3. Add Eggs and Vanilla:

  1. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  2. Mix in vanilla extract.

4. Combine Dry and Wet:

  1. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.

5. Prepare Chocolate Batter:

  1. In a small bowl, mix cocoa powder and boiling water to form a smooth paste.
  2. Take about one-third of the vanilla batter and mix it with the cocoa paste to create the chocolate batter.

6. Marble the Batter:

  1. Spoon half of the vanilla batter into the prepared pan.
  2. Add dollops of chocolate batter on top.
  3. Pour remaining vanilla batter over the chocolate.
  4. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the batters together to create a marbled pattern.

7. Bake:

  1. Bake for 50–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Cool in pan for 15 minutes, then turn onto a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips for Success:

  • Don’t overmix the batter to maintain fluffiness.
  • Use room temperature ingredients for best mixing.
  • Swirl gently to create a distinct marble effect without blending batters too much.

Recommendations:

  • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate glaze.
  • Serve with fresh berries or whipped cream.
  • Store covered at room temperature for up to 3 days.
